ESU Hands-on Training Courses
Uniquely featured at the congress are the hands-on training sessions which are organised by the European School of Urology (ESU) in cooperation with the EAU Section of Uro-Technology (ESUT), the EAU Section of Urolithiasis (EULIS) and the EAU Robotic Urology Section (ERUS).
Topics offered this year range from urodynamics, laparoscopy, ureterorenoscopy to robotic surgery, among others. Below are short descriptions of the courses:
Advanced Suturing and Anastomosis
The aim of this advanced laparoscopic suturing course is to develop skill and knowledge about laparoscopic suturing.
Supported by experienced laparoscopist and state of the art Laparoscopic technology, you can improve your suturing skills, shorten your learning curve with the help of HD vision and practice an anastomosis. An intermediate level in laparoscopy is mandatory for this course.
GreenLight Laser Vaporisation
Utilising high fidelity virtual reality simulators with proven face, construct and content validity, the faculty will take delegates through the steps of a GreenLight Laser Vaporization (PVP) procedure. VIrtual reality simulation is the first step to performing GreenLight PVP and following this course delegates will be able to move on to performing cases under supervision. Three courses, suitable for delegates of all training levels are available.
Laparoscopy –Basic Laparoscopic Urological Skills (E-BLUS)
Exercises designed to develop and practice psychomotor skills such as depth perception and bimanual dexterity and to master basic laparoscopy skills including instrument handling, pattern cutting and intracorporal suturing. The training courses are aimed at participants with little or basic laparoscopy experience and candidates preparing for the E-BLUS exam.
OnabotulinumtoxinA Administration for OAB
A procedure-focused workshop and will instruct participants on the practicalities of OnabotulinumtoxinA administration through short lectures, videos and hands-on demonstrations using bladder models.
A 90-minute course to improve the participants´ control skills, hand-eye coordination and an objective benchmarking of console performance. Participants will be mentored on standardized surgical steps in robot-assisted procedures. Each course is limited to six participants to provide an optimal training setting with only two participants per mentor.
- EAU Congress Attendees will be instructed on how to harness professional Social Media to augment experience of professional meetings, follow urologic news feeds, and engage with the world-wide urologic community.
- Urologists who are expert in the use of Social Media will provide 20 minute small group hands-on workshops on the use of professional Social Media.
- Current Social Media users will have the opportunity to exchange expertise with other Social Media users during small group sessions.
An interactive 'hands-on' environment for doctors, nurses and technicians to improve urodynamics skills in urodynamics. Emphasis will be on practical aspects including equipment used, interpretation of traces, quality control and trouble-shooting.
An intensive course on the endoscopic management of urolithiasis. Participants will practice with normal endoscopic instruments in different models. The use of various guide-wires, baskets and intracorporeal lithotripters will be demonstrated.
A practical hands-on training with female pelvic models focusing on the placement of slings for the treatment of stress urinary incontinence (SUI). The step-by-step programme will train participants on the surgical treatment for SUI using retropubic, transobturator and single-incision slings.
